Use when adding Renovate to a repo, moving a repo's renovate.json onto the shared technicalpickles/renovate-config presets, or previewing what Renovate would open before a config merges. Detects ecosystems and CI, writes the one-line config, dry-runs it, and opens the PR.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. # Adopting Renovate
Policy lives in the shared presets at [technicalpickles/renovate-config](https://github.com/technicalpickles/renovate-config). This skill is the procedure for applying them to one repo. When a lesson changes policy, fix the preset, not the repo.
## Prerequisites
- Renovate CLI: `npm:renovate` in the global mise tools (`mise exec npm:renovate -- renovate --version`). `mise install npm:renovate` on the command line resolves `latest` and ignores config options, so use plain `mise install`.
- `gh` authenticated with read access to the repo.
- The Renovate GitHub app has access to the repo. A config does nothing without it; see Gotchas.

How to install
mdr add technicalpickles/pickled-claude-plugins/adopting-renovate@sha256:9e6a8460a9f96342The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261027.311b7f0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
