Guidance for AI coding agents working in this repo. Humans, see CONTRIBUTING.md.
Needs Go 1.25+, Postgres 14+, Node 22+, Docker (integration tests only).
## Non-negotiables
<feedback_loop>
**Tests and the local feedback loop must be green before any push.** That means, at minimum:
- `go build ./...` succeeds
- `golangci-lint run` succeeds (matches the CI lint job)
- `go test -race ./...` (unit) succeeds
- `go test -tags=integration -race ./...` (integration, requires a running Docker daemon) succeeds for any package you touched
- `npm test` inside `dashboard/` succeeds for any frontend change
Do not push, open a PR, or claim work is "done" until these pass locally. CI runs the same jobs (`Go unit tests`, `Go integration tests`, `Dashboard tests`, `Lint`, plus a Playwright e2e smoke test) in `.github/workflows/ci.yml`; the `images` and `binaries` jobs in the same workflow (ghcr images + release binaries) gate on them. If you find yourself bypassing the loop ("I'll just push and let CI catch it"), stop and fix the loop first. A broken local feedback loop is a higher-priority bug than whatever you were working on.

How to install
mdr add instancez/instancez/AGENTS.md@sha256:1db1ebfbda4a4952The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261009.8268934, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
