comment-cleanup SKILL.md skillA
comment-cleanup from openhands/extensions is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.
mdr add openhands/extensions/comment-cleanup@git:20261028.6ce3366Pins git:20261028.6ce3366 in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

This skill should be used when the user asks to "clean up comments", "remove superfluous comments", "remove redundant comments", "trim verbose comments", "remove changelog comments from code", "clean up the README", or "run a comment cleanup" on a set of files or directories, or when a scheduled automation hands over a list of files for comment cleanup. Removes comments that restate adjacent code, deletes comments that narrate removed functionality or past PRs, and condenses verbose comments…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Comment Cleanup
Remove low-value prose from source files and READMEs without changing behaviour. Three
patterns are in scope; everything else is left alone. The output is a comment-only diff.
## The three patterns
Apply one test to every comment: **does it tell a reader something they cannot get from
the code within a few lines of it?** If yes, keep it (shortened if needed). If no, delete it.
### Pattern 1 - Comment restates the adjacent code
The content is inferable from the few lines above and below. Delete it.
```python
# Get the content text from the message
content_text = message.get_content_text()
```
Typical signs: the comment paraphrases the function name, the variable name, or the
branch condition; it announces the next line ("# Loop over users", "// Return result");
it labels a block whose first line already says the same thing.
### Pattern 2 - Comment narrates history or removed functionality
The comment explains a past state, a change, or a PR. That belongs in the PR description
or version control. Delete the history; keep any present-tense fact a reader still needs.
```python
…Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add openhands/extensions/comment-cleanup@sha256:251475f160261cf9The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261028.6ce3366, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
