# Database Migration Guidelines
## When to Use This Rule
**Use this rule when:**

- Squashing / collapsing historical migrations into the baseline
## Migration Tool
The project uses Flyway for database migrations, configured in Spring Boot.
## Migration Files Location
* SQL migrations: `backend/src/main/resources/db/migration/`
* Java migrations: `backend/src/main/java/db/migration/`
* Files follow the naming convention: `V{version}__{description}.sql` (or `.java`)
* Example: `V300000352__rename_a_column.sql` (version must exceed **`300000351`**)

mdr add nerds-odd-e/doughnut/db-migration@sha256:1aa3d10b6e13a2fbThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260928.428ed03, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
