Assign transactions to tax-aligned expense categories using vendor name, line items, and amount patterns. Handles ambiguous vendors like Amazon by inspecting line-item detail from the receipt source. Supports split categorization and learns from user corrections. Trigger on "categorize expenses", "sort transactions", "assign expense categories", "what category is this".
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Expense Categorization Assign every transaction to the correct expense category so it flows to the right line on a tax return, produces accurate financial statements, and survives an audit. ## Read these when needed - Read [references/DECISION-RULES.md](references/DECISION-RULES.md) when deciding whether a category is safe to auto-assign or should go to review. - Run `scripts/category_review_summary.py` when you already have categorized records and need a deterministic summary by confidence, category, and review status. ## Why categorization matters The IRS doesn't audit "total expenses." It audits individual line items on Schedule C (or the equivalent form for your entity type). A business that lumps everything into "Other Expenses" invites scrutiny. Proper categorization also reveals spending patterns — you can't cut costs you can't see. For the full Schedule C line-by-line reference (Lines 8–27a with what belongs and what doesn't), see the **schedule-c-categories** skill. ## Categorization logic ### Primary signal: vendor name Most categorization comes from the vendor name alone. Use the mapping table below to auto-categorize high-confidence vendors. …

How to install
mdr add receiptor-ai/bookkeeping-skills/expense-categorization@sha256:dcd96a0229901403The line at the top of this page pins the label v3.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
