# Task Change a mirrored skill so the change survives upstream syncs and `make skills-check` passes. This skill is the procedure; [`docs/designs/upstream-skill-overlays.md`](../../../docs/designs/upstream-skill-overlays.md) is the design and its rationale. `scripts/skill_overlay.py` is the tool behind the `make skills-*` targets. A skill is mirrored when `agents/platform/skill-overlays/<skill>/upstream.lock` exists. How to install
mdr add gke-labs/kube-agents/edit-mirrored-skill@sha256:7f07607a6d3dbba4The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261016.ac3a849, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
