Convert documents (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, images, HTML) to Markdown using microsoft/markitdown. Use for document analysis, content extraction, preprocessing for LLMs, or batch document conversion. Supports images with OCR/LLM descriptions, audio transcription, and ZIP archives.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. # Document to Markdown Conversion
Model IDs in these examples are configuration placeholders. Replace `<configured-model>` (and any primary/fallback variants) with models available to the selected provider and runtime; use the user’s configuration rather than a skill-defined default. For image input, select a model that supports vision.
## Overview
Convert various document formats to clean Markdown using Microsoft's MarkItDown tool. Optimized for LLM processing, content extraction, and document analysis workflows.

- ✅ Limit file sizes (prevent DoS)

How to install
mdr add rysweet/amplihack-rs/markitdown@sha256:70fdffc8da3228f8The line at the top of this page pins the label v1.0.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
