'Hunt for malicious PowerShell activity by analyzing Script Block Logging.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Hunting for Anomalous PowerShell Execution ## Overview PowerShell Script Block Logging (Event ID 4104) records the full deobfuscated script text executed on a Windows endpoint, making it the primary data source for hunting malicious PowerShell. Combined with Module Logging (4103) and process creation events, analysts can detect encoded commands, AMSI bypass patterns, download cradles, credential theft tools, and fileless attack techniques even when the attacker uses obfuscation layers. ## When to Use - When investigating security incidents that require hunting for anomalous powershell execution - When building detection rules or threat hunting queries for this domain - When SOC analysts need structured procedures for this analysis type - When validating security monitoring coverage for related attack techniques ## Prerequisites - Windows Event Log exports (.evtx) from Microsoft-Windows-PowerShell/Operational - Python 3.8+ with python-evtx and lxml libraries - Script Block Logging enabled via Group Policy - Understanding of common PowerShell attack techniques ## Steps 1. Parse EVTX files extracting Event 4104 script block text and metadata …

How to install
mdr add adriannoes/awesome-agentic-ai/hunting-for-anomalous-powershell-execution@sha256:7f02bb8bac8b528cThe line at the top of this page pins the label v1.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
