# Second Brain Starter Kit

> A second brain and persistent memory for Claude Code and Codex: 234 skills shipped as a plugin marketplace, an opt-in memory server (sqlite-graph-memory over your own markdown notes), a markdown CRM engine with demo data, vault templates and a seed message for the first session. The method, not the data: every example is fictional. MIT, no telemetry.

Who it is for: someone who wants an agent that keeps habits and memory across months, and an agent bootstrapping such a system for its own operator on a machine the authors have never seen. Not a hosted product; everything runs locally.

## Install

- Any agent that reads skills: `npx skills add tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit`
- Claude Code: `/plugin marketplace add tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit`, then `/plugin install second-brain-skills@second-brain`
- Memory (optional, about 2 GB on first start): `/plugin install second-brain-memory@second-brain`. It registers the `sgm-mcp` MCP server and asks for `BRAIN_INDEX_DIR`, the folder built by `uvx --from 'sqlite-graph-memory[embeddings]' sgm-index <notes folder>`.
- First time, no terminal: [ONBOARDING-LITE.md](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/ONBOARDING-LITE.md), a receive-only folder with four plain-text skills.
- Verify offline: `cd crm-template/reference && python demo.py` scores the shipped sample. The priority column is expected not to reproduce exactly (three signals are not in the export); that gap is documented, not a bug.

## Start here: 25 skills

- [/secondop](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/secondop/SKILL.md): a second opinion from a PANEL of external LLMs (Codex + Grok + Gemini) on any plan or diff: a model never reviews itself
- [/tt](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/tt/SKILL.md): the quality gate after every build: run it live, break it on purpose, prove it with a counter: only then say "done"
- [/retro](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/retro/SKILL.md): end-of-session retrospective that routes every durable artifact to its home and hands you a compact handoff
- [/handoff](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/handoff/SKILL.md): a self-contained "semicolon" so another session, person or machine continues exactly where you stopped
- [/skill-gap](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/skill-gap/SKILL.md): audits your sessions for repeated manual patterns and tells you which skill to install or build next
- [/precedent](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/precedent/SKILL.md): before you decide anything structural: did we already decide it, and did we already reject it?
- [/declined](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/declined/SKILL.md): the registry of rejected ideas, so the agent stops re-pitching what you already said no to
- [/issue-match](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/issue-match/SKILL.md): measures a target repo's queue before you spend a PR: how many of the last closed PRs were actually merged
- [/research-swarm](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/research-swarm/SKILL.md): turns any hypothesis into an argument map from 5 independent lenses: never a verdict
- [/last30days](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/last30days/SKILL.md): deterministic "what changed in the last 30 days on topic X" before a strategic call
- [/ask](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/ask/SKILL.md): semantic search over your curated vault: the smallest relevant slice, not a corpus dump
- [/search](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/search/SKILL.md): full-text search across every conversation you ever had, locally, 0 tokens
- [/chat-search](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/chat-search/SKILL.md): find which past Claude Code session discussed a thing: and resume it
- [/resume-last](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/resume-last/SKILL.md): continue the previous chat after a crash, even on another machine where native resume can't reach
- [/1](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/1/SKILL.md): hard-crash recovery: where were we + is everything alive + restore the history, in one command
- [/arch](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/arch/SKILL.md): the deterministic map of everything your system is made of, and what fell off it
- [/brain](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/brain/SKILL.md): one-glance health of a memory/RAG stack so failures stop being silent
- [/sync-check](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/sync-check/SKILL.md): green/red report on file sync across a machine fleet, including the silent sync-conflict count
- [/quarantine](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/quarantine/SKILL.md): holds unsigned or unverified incoming deliverables instead of applying them: fail-closed
- [/obsidian-ingest](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/obsidian-ingest/SKILL.md): universal import pipeline: any source becomes well-linked atomic notes with provenance
- [/defuddle](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/defuddle/SKILL.md): clean web→markdown without ads or nav: 40-60% fewer tokens than a raw fetch
- [/dedup](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/dedup/SKILL.md): find and merge near-duplicate notes with a supersede-not-delete policy
- [/taste-check](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/taste-check/SKILL.md): a content quality gate: is this fit to show, before anyone sees it
- [/intake](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/intake/SKILL.md): one pass routes a new rule into every home it needs, so parallel sessions see it on their own
- [/mcp](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/skills/mcp/SKILL.md): health-check your MCP servers and scout new ones before any integration work

## Principles

- Method, not data: no real names, chat ids, paths, machine names or credentials anywhere in the repo.
- AK-47: the simplest thing that works and that a non-engineer can repair. A simplification that removes a rule without losing anything is the most valuable change.
- Receipts, not "understood": a skill proves what it saved ("wrote X to note Y").
- A test that never went red proves nothing: break a copy, watch the check fail, then say "done". Drop-in spec: [RED-PROOF.md](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/RED-PROOF.md).
- Every engine has a passport (what it does, input, output, who calls it, what breaks, how to fix): [engines/PASSPORTS.md](https://github.com/tonydzi/second-brain-starter-kit/blob/master/engines/PASSPORTS.md).
- Portable paths only, no drive letters.
- Money, deletion and anything leaving the machine happen only on the operator's explicit OK.
