pdf-analysis SKILL.md skillA
This file is byte-identical to the first copy the registry indexed. Same content hash, so the same checks give both the same grade.
pdf-analysis from vecnode/vn-code is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.
mdr add vecnode/vn-code/pdf-analysis@git:20260929.381b0dePins git:20260929.381b0de in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

Read and understand PDF documents with the pdf_* tools - inspect a document before reading it, extract text in reading order or as reconstructed layout, search a document without reading all of it, recognize scanned pages that have no text layer, and render pages as pictures. Covers scanned documents, chat attachments, page-range and character caps, and the read-only and untrusted-content rules.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Reading PDFs A PDF is not text on disk. Reading its bytes gives binary noise; `grep` finds nothing in it. Every question about a PDF goes through the `pdf_*` tools, which share one vendored pdf.js engine and one content-addressed page cache. ## Pick the tool by the question | The question | The tool | |---|---| | What is this document? How many pages? Is it a scan? Does it have a table of contents? | `pdf_info` | | What does it say on these pages? | `pdf_read` | | Does it mention X, and where? | `pdf_find` | | What does this page LOOK like (a chart, a stamp, a signature, a scanned page)? | `pdf_render` | | This page is a scan with no text layer - what does it SAY? | `pdf_scan` | `pdf_info` first is almost always right: it is one parse, it is cached, and it tells you whether text can be read at all. ## Worked sequences `reference/workflows.md` beside this file has the order that actually works for each common request - a document you have never seen, the scanned contract, an invoice or statement (`layout` and where to look for the total), a chat attachment, a figure, a locked file, a long or damaged one, and which PDFs are in …

How to install
mdr add vecnode/vn-code/pdf-analysis@sha256:20b0ce14e79af83eThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260929.381b0de, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
