Build an Opportunity Solution Tree (OST) to structure continuous product discovery — map one desired outcome to customer opportunities, candidate solutions, and validating experiments. Based on Teresa Torres' Continuous Discovery Habits. Use when structuring discovery, turning research into prioritized bets, or deciding what to build next without jumping to solutions.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

Connects a desired **outcome** to customer **opportunities**, possible **solutions**, and **experiments** to validate them — preventing the team from jumping to solutions before mapping the opportunity space. ## Structure — 4 levels 1. **Desired Outcome** (top) — One measurable business/product outcome (e.g. "increase 7-day retention to 40%"). Comes from OKRs or strategy. Single metric. 2. **Opportunities** (second) — Customer needs/pains/desires from research. These are problems worth solving, NOT features. Frame from the customer's view: "I struggle to…", "I wish I could…". Prioritize with Opportunity Score = **Importance × (1 − Satisfaction)** (Dan Olsen), Importance/Satisfaction on 0–1. …

How to install
mdr add vandanaajaydubey111/great-pm/opportunity-solution-tree@sha256:707727ed929eb6b1The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260721.86de099, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
