Grooms an open backlog before the next task is picked: finds issues that are the same work, adopts orphans into the epic they belong to, and proposes what can ship in one pull request. Read-only until the user approves each move. Use when the board feels like it only grows, before planning a sprint or picking the next issue, or on /backlog [epic-number].
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. # backlog: make the board readable before working from it A board that reads as an endless list is usually not a board that is growing. It is a board whose structure is invisible. Measured on 2026-08-17 in the repository this was built against: 18 open issues, 107 created against 108 closed over ten days, so flat. What made it feel endless was one epic with ten open children across three levels, and two issues with no parent at all sitting next to them as flat rows. So this skill does not delete work and does not close issues to make a number go down. It answers three questions with evidence, and every move needs the user's yes. Input: an epic number, a label, or nothing, in which case groom the whole open backlog. ## What it may and may not do - **Read freely.** Issues, bodies, labels, the sub-issue tree, the diffs of anything already merged. - **Propose in writing**, grouped, with the evidence under each proposal. - **Act only on an explicit yes, one group at a time.** Adopting a child, editing a title, adding a label, commenting, closing as duplicate: each is a separate ask. - **Never close an issue as "stale" or "probably done"** without naming the commit …

How to install

This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
