pyvene-interventions SKILL.md skillA
pyvene-interventions from orchestra-research/ai-research-skills is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.
mdr add orchestra-research/ai-research-skills/pyvene-interventions@v1.0.0Pins v1.0.0 in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

Provides guidance for performing causal interventions on PyTorch models using pyvene's declarative intervention framework. Use when conducting causal tracing, activation patching, interchange intervention training, or testing causal hypotheses about model behavior.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# pyvene: Causal Interventions for Neural Networks pyvene is Stanford NLP's library for performing causal interventions on PyTorch models. It provides a declarative, dict-based framework for activation patching, causal tracing, and interchange intervention training - making intervention experiments reproducible and shareable. **GitHub**: [stanfordnlp/pyvene](https://github.com/stanfordnlp/pyvene) (840+ stars) **Paper**: [pyvene: A Library for Understanding and Improving PyTorch Models via Interventions](https://aclanthology.org/2024.naacl-demo.16) (NAACL 2024) ## When to Use pyvene **Use pyvene when you need to:** - Perform causal tracing (ROME-style localization) - Run activation patching experiments - Conduct interchange intervention training (IIT) - Test causal hypotheses about model components - Share/reproduce intervention experiments via HuggingFace - Work with any PyTorch architecture (not just transformers) **Consider alternatives when:** - You need exploratory activation analysis → Use **TransformerLens** - You want to train/analyze SAEs → Use **SAELens** - You need remote execution on massive models → Use **nnsight** - You want lower-level control → Use **nnsight** …

How to install
mdr add orchestra-research/ai-research-skills/pyvene-interventions@sha256:cc26be84bdf23355The line at the top of this page pins the label v1.0.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
