# Hallmark design

The interactive version, with the animated floor plan and the replay, is
[`design.html`](design.html). Where the two differ, this document wins: it
includes the decisions made after the page.

This document is a condensed version of the design page, plus the decisions made
since. Where they differ, this document wins. The reasons for the larger choices
are in [`decisions/`](decisions/), and the facts they rest on are in
[`spikes.md`](spikes.md).

The name comes from Goldsmiths' Hall in London, where silver was tested and
stamped before it could be sold.

## What it is

Hallmark is a local, agent-first development loop for any git repository, driven
from Claude Code. It works like this:

1. **You start work** with a prompt or a GitHub issue. Each piece of work becomes
   an **item** (`H-0042`) with its own branch and worktree.
2. **Dev agents build it with you** in a normal Claude Code session. Hooks record
   every prompt, turn and commit.
3. **You say it's ready.** Hallmark freezes the commit and queues the item.
4. **Checks run first.** They are the repo's own gates: tests, lint and build.

How to install
