Track changes in this repo with Hallmark (the `hall` CLI). Use when starting work on a clear requirement to build or change the app ("/hallmark <request>", "fix the flaky login test", "pick up issue #212"), adopting an existing branch, saying the work is done or "send it to review" / "ready", "pull it back", "drop it", asking "what's in review?", "what needs me?" or "why was H-0042 rejected?", answering an agent's question, checking usage, or when an edit or push was denied by the Hallmark gate.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Hallmark
Every change in a Hallmark repo is an **item** (`H-0042`) with its own branch,
worktree and journal. You build it with the human; an independent reviewer
approves it later. Only a commit with a hallmark (an approval bound to that
SHA) may be pushed, so **never push** and never open PRs yourself. The gate
denies `git push`, `gh pr create` and the repo's ship command without one. In
an item's worktree it also denies what may push that it can't read (scripts
like `make push`, git aliases, `gh` commands that change GitHub), and it
denies `git notes` writes: only Hallmark writes the hallmark. A note you write
yourself is not a hallmark: the push gate checks that Hallmark struck it.
## What becomes an item
Only a **clear, concise requirement to develop something in the app**: a
feature, a fix, a refactor, a test, an issue to pick up. Everything else is
not an item, so don't run `hall new` for it:
- questions, explanations, investigations ("why does X…?", "how would we…?");
- writing or updating documents, READMEs, ADRs, architecture or designs;
- drafting requirements, specs, plans or estimates.

How to install
mdr add tiagocolombo/hallmark/hallmark@sha256:31911fe8fc7bab20The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261027.f4c613c, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
