Boot the Android emulator and Metro (Expo or bare RN) in order: check terminals, kill stale ports, pick an AVD. Use when "start Metro", "start emulator", "Cannot connect to Expo", or a stuck dev loop. QA → mobile-emulator-test.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# mobile-emulator-start — Metro + Android emulator in a sane order **Degree of freedom: MIXED.** Reuse vs fresh Metro `[HIGH freedom]`; port kill, boot, reverse, `/status`, then intent `[LOW freedom — run exactly]`. Deliver a **working dev loop** (emulator online → tunnel → bundler ready → app intent) without burning time on duplicate Metros, stale caches, or racing the dev client ahead of `/status`. > Pair with **`mobile-emulator-test`** for full QA; this skill focuses on **bring-up + terminal hygiene**. ## This skill vs neighbors | Skill | Owns | |---|---| | **mobile-emulator-start** (this) | Emulator and Metro bring-up in order; port and terminal hygiene | | `mobile-emulator-test` | QA of the native build: UI, Supabase, Sentry per CRUD step | ## How to reason 1. **Inspect** — existing terminals, `curl /status`, `adb devices` 2. **Decide** — reuse a healthy Metro vs one explicit fresh wipe 3. **Order** — free ports → boot AVD → reverse → Metro → wait `/status` 4. **Launch** — intent only after `packager-status:running` ## Worked example > **Inspect:** two terminals on 8081; `adb devices` empty; last intent was `ECONNREFUSED`. …

How to install
mdr add kensaurus/cursor-kenji/mobile-emulator-start@sha256:bede32c9845fa725The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261019.95c89e5, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
