Write or update a handoff file that lets a fresh agent pick up the current work and continue it, and resume work from one. Use when the user asks for a handoff, a session summary to continue later, or to save progress before clearing or ending a session; when a hook reports that context or usage limits have reached the threshold; and when the user asks to resume or continue from a handoff. Not for commit messages, pull request descriptions, changelogs, or status reports meant for people.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Handoff ## Purpose Record the state of the current work in one file so that an agent with no memory of this session can continue it without asking the user to repeat anything. The file holds what exists only in this conversation and points to everything else. ## When to Use Use this skill when: - The user asks for a handoff, or to save progress before clearing, compacting, or ending a session. - A hook message reports context or usage at or above the threshold. Write the handoff first, then continue the task. - The user asks to resume, continue, or pick up from a handoff. Do not use this skill for commit messages, pull request descriptions, changelogs, or status reports for people. ## Location Write the file to `.claude/handoff.md` at the root of the git repository, or in the current directory outside a repository. Overwrite it each time; the newest handoff replaces the old one, and git history and the linked records carry the past. Before writing, make sure git ignores the file: 1. How to install

This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
