Compare skills between two directories (mine and theirs) to identify best practices from "theirs" that can be adopted into "mine". Produces a prioritized list of improvements with concrete suggestions.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
TODAY=!`date +%Y-%m-%d` # Compare Skills Compares the skill libraries in two directories, identifies best practices present in "theirs" but missing or weaker in "mine", and produces a prioritized adoption plan. ## Prerequisites - Two directories containing skill libraries, each with `SKILL.md` files in subdirectories - `<mine-dir>` — your skill directory (the one to improve) - `<theirs-dir>` — the reference skill directory (the one to learn from) ## What Counts as a Best Practice | Category | What to Look For | |----------|-----------------| | Structural patterns | Consistent frontmatter fields, section ordering, standard sections (Prerequisites, Steps, Output Format, Examples) | | Instruction quality | Specificity of steps, use of code blocks, error handling guidance, edge case coverage | | Reusability | Parameterization via arguments or environment variables, `!` template syntax for dynamic values | | Completeness | Prerequisites section, example usage scenarios, useful commands reference, next steps | | Safety | Guardrails, validation steps, rollback guidance, confirmation prompts before destructive actions | …

How to install
mdr add tomzx/agents/compare-skills@sha256:39f966aae35c7f70The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261007.b35fc4b, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
