Install and configure AutoRAG, register its Lite MCP server for external agents, or repair its single search model, approved roots, indexes, datasources, and health checks without exposing credentials. Use when AutoRAG or MCP is missing, init/refresh/health fails, indexes are stale, or the user wants to add folders or datasources.

Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# AutoRAG setup

Use this skill when AutoRAG is unconfigured, the `autorag` CLI is missing, model
resolution fails, indexes are missing or stale, or the user wants to change the
document collection or datasources.

For model-free external-agent search, use `autorag-lite-setup` to configure
and register `autorag-mcp`; do not configure a search model or install a search
skill for Lite. This skill's model setup and CLI search apply to the full
librarian, not the Lite MCP server.

## Safety

- Inspect only non-secret provider/model metadata and credential availability.
- Never print, copy, migrate, compare, or persist credential values. Store only
  environment-variable names such as `apiKeyEnv`.
- Do not scan the whole filesystem or home directory without explicit approval.
- Setup, indexing, and refresh never move, rename, edit, or delete source
  documents. The librarian itself may organize files when the user asks it to.
- Do not index system trees, app bundles, caches, credential stores,
  `node_modules`, `.git`, `dist`, `build`, `target`, `.cache`, `.autorag`, or
  `.jikji`.

The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261021.3eab69a, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
