Secure-by-default guidance for writing, reviewing, and fixing backend application code - HTTP/REST/GraphQL APIs, authentication, authorization (BOLA/IDOR), sessions and JWT, OAuth/OIDC, password hashing, injection (SQL, NoSQL, command, template), SSRF, mass assignment, rate limiting, file uploads, secrets and crypto, webhooks, race conditions, business-logic abuse, logging, background jobs, and dependency hygiene. Use whenever the user mentions SQL injection, SSRF, IDOR, BOLA, JWT, sessions…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Backend Security (Application Layer) Rules for writing, reviewing, and fixing backend code so it is secure by default. Prefer small, targeted changes that preserve existing behavior. Concrete fixes over theory. Standards baseline: OWASP Top 10:2025 (SSRF now sits under A01 Broken Access Control), OWASP API Security Top 10:2023, OWASP ASVS 5.0.0. These are baselines, not a substitute for threat modeling or version-specific documentation. Scope: application-level backend security. Out of scope: infrastructure and OS hardening, network security, penetration testing. Browser-side topics (XSS, CSP, browser cookie handling, token storage in the browser) belong to the `frontend-security` skill; this skill covers only the server-side half. Examples are TypeScript (Node.js). The rules are language-neutral; each reference notes where Python, PHP, Go, or Java differ. Last reviewed: October 2026. ## How to work …

How to install
mdr add miladjoodi/skills/backend-security@sha256:13627aa408c5e4e4The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261011.c2a376d, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
