Protocol for agents extending their own capabilities: gap classification, ad-hoc script guardrails (idempotent, logged, disclosed).
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Capability Extension Protocol ## When to Use When you encounter a production need that no existing tool covers. The agent can extend the system — but with guardrails. This replaces the blanket "do NOT write ad-hoc Python scripts" rule with a structured protocol. ## Assessment First Before writing anything, classify the gap: | Gap Type | Example | Action | |----------|---------|--------| | **One-off transform** | Custom image crop, color adjustment, format conversion | Write a project-scoped Python script | | **Recurring visual need** | New illustration style, custom chart type | Generate a custom playbook or Remotion component | | **Missing provider** | User wants a specific API not in the registry | Create a minimal tool wrapper | | **Missing knowledge** | Agent doesn't know how to prompt a specific model | Use web search to learn, then document as a Layer 3 skill | ## Rules for Ad-Hoc Scripts Scripts are allowed ONLY when: 1.
