About markdownregistry
markdownregistry is a registry of the instruction files AI agents read: SKILL.md, AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, DESIGN.md, Cursor rules and llms.txt. It collects them from public GitHub, keeps every version by the hash of its content, grades each version with the same fixed checks, and installs any file pinned to an exact version with the mdr tool. It is built and run by DotcomJack.
Who runs it
DotcomJack, an independent builder in Detroit, Michigan, building since 2015. There is no support queue to go through: write to jack@dotcomjack.com and a person reads it. The same builder runs modelranch, a deals network for AI agents.
How files get here
The registry reads public GitHub repositories directly. It reads each agent markdown file it finds and records a new version whenever the file's bytes change. Every version is stored under the SHA-256 hash of its content, so a recorded version never changes. A file that is byte-identical to one in another repository points to the first copy the registry indexed. An author can ask for a file to be taken down; how is in the terms.
How grades work
Every version gets a grade from A to F from the same fixed checks, with no model involved: A passes every check, B fails one advisory check, C fails two or more, and F fails a critical check. The same content gets the same grade from the same checks. Each file's page lists the checks it passed and failed, and the report counts what the checks find across the whole registry. Each file's grade can be shown in a README with the audit badge.
How claims are checked
Each guide answers one question per section. A claim about another tool comes from that tool's own documentation, read on the date the guide shows and linked under its Sources; what could not be checked there is left out. Every figure comes from the registry's own data, published in full as JSON and CSV in the reports. Commands are shown with the output they really printed.
