Check an explainer before it ships — renderings against model.yaml, the video review sheet, the page in a browser, and a blind understanding test run by a fresh agent. Use after building an explainer, before publishing one, or when the user asks to check, review, or test an explainer (/verify <slug>).
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Verify — is the explanation right, and does it teach? Run the checks in order. Stop and fix at the first failure. A quick artifact needs §1 and §2 only; a published one needs all of them (principles §12). Record what you ran in `explainers/<slug>/review/understanding.md`. **CLI.** `explainer <command>` with the plugin; `uv run explainer <command>` inside the Explainer repo. ## 1. Consistency with the model ```bash explainer check <slug> ``` It fails when a rendering shows a number the model does not explain, is longer than its declared `budget`, omits a value that `require` lists, embeds an out-of-date model (`explainer sync <slug>` fixes that), leaves a claim incomplete or uncovered, uses a phrase a `terms` entry avoids, or plays the video without its predict pauses, or when `model.md` uses a function that no `why` claim justifies. A number that is right but missing from the model goes into `values` or `allow`. Never silence a real disagreement. A `!` line is a warning: a rendering over the default length (600 words of prose, 150 s of video). Cut it, or set `budget` with a reason. …

How to install
mdr add ifrit98/explainer/verify@sha256:6742f0027e2047fbThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261004.7b82a2e, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
