Explanation-compiler pipeline. Use when the user asks to explain, teach, visualize, or break down a subject, concept, system, algorithm, or architecture — or invokes /explain <topic>. Builds a semantic model first, then renders it as controlled prose, a diagram, an interactive HTML explainer, or an animated video, escalating only when the richer medium improves understanding, and checks every rendering against the model.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Explain — explanation compiler pipeline Read `references/principles.md` first. It holds the rules that apply to every explanation: model first, the four stages, STE-80 writing, epistemic labels, predict-first, and the understanding test. This skill is the procedure. **CLI.** With the plugin installed, run `explainer <command>`. Inside the Explainer repo, run `uv run explainer <command>`. The first plugin run downloads the toolkit with uv. Video needs `explainer setup` once (Kokoro voice, about 350 MB). ## Step 0 — Choose the tier Match the process to the stakes (principles §12). Choose the lowest tier that fits, and say which one in a word when you start. | Tier | When | Steps | |---|---|---| | **Answer** | A question in chat. The default. | Build the model in your head (Step 1, no files), choose the stage, answer in STE-80. A Mermaid block or a table inline is fine. | | **Quick artifact** | A diagram, page, or video for this person, now. | `explainer new <slug> --stage <n> --quick`; Step 1 items 1–4 and 9; Step 2; Step 3; `explainer check <slug>`. | …

How to install
mdr add ifrit98/explainer/explain@sha256:5c75f8cd39b8fe8dThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261004.7b82a2e, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
