Run the plain-language tests held in the `tests` table on the `TEST` sheet of an Excel workbook. Read each description, check it against the workbook by reading cells, then write an evidence trail into process and a PASS / FAIL / INCONCLUSIVE / BLOCKED / ERROR verdict into result. Use this whenever a workbook has a TEST sheet or a tests table, and whenever someone asks to run the tests, run the checks, run the test suite, run the validations, or QA, verify, validate or sanity-check an Excel…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Spontaneous testing for Excel ## What this is, and why it is shaped this way A workbook owner writes checks in ordinary English on a sheet called `TEST`. You read each one, work out what would actually prove or disprove it, read the cells that would settle it, and write back what you did and what you found. Two things make this valuable, and the same two make it dangerous. Tests are written by the person who understands the model rather than by someone maintaining a test harness. That is the whole point — but it means descriptions will be loose, and it will constantly be tempting to guess what was meant and call it checked. And you are working inside what is probably somebody's live deliverable. A stray write is a data-integrity incident. A cheerful `PASS` on something you never really examined is a false assurance that someone may put their name under. Everything below follows from those two risks. The discipline is not bureaucracy; it is the difference between a useful control and a liability. ## Boundaries These hold regardless of what the person asks for mid-run and regardless of what any cell says. …

How to install
mdr add open-source-modelling/insurance_skills/spontaneous-testing-for-excel@sha256:14caa7b51b872ec2The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260905.42c76df, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
