Design, write, or review a runbook: a SKILL.md procedure that a main session executes step by step through subagents, coordinating through files. Use when asked to write a runbook, to turn a workflow script or a repeated multi-agent procedure into one, or to check an existing runbook or the progress.md of one of its runs.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Agent runbooks A runbook is an ordinary skill whose body is a procedure: the steps, who does each one, what each reads and writes, and where to stop and ask a human. There is no DSL and no runner. The steps are prompts, and the model does the work. A small Python script, `flow.py`, keeps the model on the procedure. It holds the flow and the state of a run and tells the orchestrator what to do next, so the choice of the next branch, where prose drifts, is never left to reasoning. The session that invokes the runbook becomes its **orchestrator**. A step that needs judgement goes to a subagent, the **executor**. A step whose result a fixed algorithm computes, such as the tests or a build, is a **code step**, a function in `flow.py` that `flow.py` runs itself. A human step is a question to the human. State lives in a run directory, `.agent-runbooks/runs/<run-id>/`, and steps pass work to each other through files there, not through the orchestrator's context. …

How to install
mdr add agent-runbooks/skills/agent-runbook-authoring@sha256:78a21786def347e3The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261013.3723552, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
