Prove the guardrails Bash guard is live — runs a simulation that feeds representative dangerous commands (curl|sh, rm -rf, DROP TABLE, kubectl delete, cloud deletes, …) through the real guard and shows the block/ask decision for each, WITHOUT executing any of them. Use when asked to verify the guard is working, or right after installing guardrails.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# guardrails: self-test
Run the bundled self-test to show the guard is active. It injects dangerous
command **strings** into the guard as hook data and prints each decision — it does
**not** execute any command.
## Do this
1. Run:

2. Show the user the output table verbatim.
3. Summarize: block-tier commands were denied, ask-tier would prompt, harmless
commands passed — and **nothing was executed**.
## Hard rule
Never run any of the dangerous example commands yourself. The whole point is that
they travel through the guard as data, never to a real shell. If the script exits
non-zero, report which case mismatched — do not "fix" it by running commands.Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add choiyounggi/groundwork/self-test@sha256:bd99a501fe8207fcThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260823.129b300, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
