Extract text content from PDF files for analysis and classification.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# PDF Text Extraction
## Overview
Extract text content from PDF files to analyze their content and classify them by subject.
## Installation
```bash
pip install pdfplumber PyPDF2
```
## Usage Examples
### Using pdfplumber (Recommended)
```python
import pdfplumber
def extract_pdf_text(pdf_path, max_chars=5000):
"""Extract text from PDF with character limit for efficiency"""
try:
with pdfplumber.open(pdf_path) as pdf:
text = ""
# Read first few pages to get representative content
for page_num in range(min(3, len(pdf.pages))):
text += pdf.pages[page_num].extract_text() or ""
if len(text) > max_chars:
break
return text[:max_chars]
except Exception as e:
return f"Error reading PDF: {str(e)}"
```
### Using PyPDF2 (Fallback)
```python
from PyPDF2 import PdfReader
def extract_pdf_text_pypdf(pdf_path):
"""Alternative PDF text extraction"""
try:
reader = PdfReader(pdf_path)
text = ""
for page in reader.pages[:3]: # First 3 pages
text += page.extract_text()
return text
except Exception as e:
…Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add cxcscmu/skilllearnbench/pdf-text-extraction@sha256:85e63d606a0e2aaeThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260424.d50cf5a, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
