# CLAUDE.md
A short orientation for agents working in this repo. The detail behind each
part lives next to its code: a module's docstring, a folder's README, or the
user docs under `mycelium-cli/src/mycelium/docs/`. Read those when you work
there. This file is what you need before you start, and the rules that stop
the mistakes people have actually made.
## What Mycelium is
Multi-agent coordination and shared memory over a secure messaging layer.
Agents are members of rooms. The unit of work is a **task**: a row on the
room's board and a thread on its channel. A person files a task and never picks
a protocol; agents claim it, split it up and work it in its thread. A mediated
negotiation is one optional step inside a task, not the reason the task exists.

How to install
mdr add mycelium-io/mycelium/CLAUDE.md@sha256:b62b388356ae4e16The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261020.0d23d18, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
