Covers code comments and docstrings, CLAUDE.md, the docs, READMEs, skill files, PR titles and descriptions, commit messages and text in the app. Use when writing or editing any of these, when opening a PR, when reviewing a PR's writing, or when asked to "edit prose", "tidy comments", "audit comments", "check the docs' wording" or "prose-edit".
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. # Writing and editing prose These are guidelines, not a procedure. Use them when you write, when you edit, and when you review someone else's writing. ## The test Picture a teammate who wasn't in the conversation that produced the text. After reading it once, can they say **what happens, to whom, and when**? If not, rewrite it as plain cause and effect. ## What to look for ### 1. Clever instead of clear This is the most common problem, and the hardest to spot in your own writing. The text tries to be terse and poetic at once, loses the meaning on the way, and sounds pretentious. Signs: - **Slogans and parallel triplets** that have rhythm but no content. - **Code that "acts":** "a mention asks", "the hub carries it", "a ping says the thread moved". Say what the code does instead. - **Abstract nouns where the behavior should be:** "a wake", "the floor", "the seam", used as if the reader already knows them. - **No who, what or when:** "it's held" (held by what, until when?). Before: > A mention asks; `@~` names; `@!` interrupts. After: > A message to an agent (`@foo`) reaches it when it finishes what it's working …

How to install
mdr add mycelium-io/mycelium/prose-edit@sha256:6ac913b7f6b60069The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261014.e789df0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
