instrument-metric SKILL.md skillA
instrument-metric from harness/harness-skills is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.
mdr add harness/harness-skills/instrument-metric@v1.2.4Pins v1.2.4 in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

Wire up a track() call for a metric's event, placed at the real outcome, and verify it arrives. Doesn't create the metric (create-metric) or choose it (choose-metric). Trigger phrases: instrument this event, add a track call, wire up tracking, verify the event arrives.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Instrument Metric
Wire up the `track()` call an FME metric needs, then verify the event is actually arriving — don't declare success on code changes alone. Key = the same key `getTreatment` uses (attribution fact); value units must match the metric's `format` (ms vs s, dollars vs cents) — a wrong unit gives silently wrong results. Related: `/create-metric` creates metrics; `/choose-metric` recommends which metrics to use.
## Tools
Works through the Harness MCP server or the Harness CLI; names are from [tool-map.md](../../../references/fme/tool-map.md).
| Operation | MCP | CLI |
|-----------|-----|-----|
| Get metric | `harness_get` · `fme_metric` · `params: { metric_id }` | `harness get metric <id> --json` |
| Get event type | `harness_get` · `fme_event_type` · `params: { event_type_id }` | `harness get event_type <event-name> --json` |
## Instructions
### Phase 1: Establish scope
…Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add harness/harness-skills/instrument-metric@sha256:014c7d6c1ef911afThe line at the top of this page pins the label v1.2.4, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
