Drive Jenkins from the shell — list jobs, trigger builds with parameters and wait for the result, stream console output, manage job config.xml, queue, agents, plugins, run Groovy on the controller. A stdlib-only Python client (Windows/macOS/Linux) over the Jenkins REST API. Use whenever a task needs Jenkins AND no Jenkins MCP tools are available (no mcp__jenkins__*), which is the normal situation on corporate controllers. Also use when explicitly asked to "use the jenkins-cli skill".
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Jenkins from the shell, without the jar
`jenkins.py` does what `jenkins-cli.jar` does — same command names — but over the
REST API. **Python 3.8+, standard library only**: no Java, no downloaded jar, no
SSH key, no `pip install`, identical on Windows, macOS and Linux.
```sh
python3 .claude/skills/jenkins-cli/jenkins.py version # macOS / Linux (also runs as ./jenkins.py)
python .claude/skills/jenkins-cli/jenkins.py version # Windows: python or py; `python3` there
# is often just the Microsoft Store stub
```
Below, `$J` is shorthand in the examples only - always type the full command
(`python3 .claude/skills/jenkins-cli/jenkins.py job petclinic-build`): the `allowed-tools` permissions
match that literal prefix, and a `J=...` variable does not word-split in zsh anyway.
## 1. One-time setup
The token lives in `~/.claude/jenkins.env`, outside every repo:
```sh
install -m 600 /dev/null ~/.claude/jenkins.env # Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.claude\jenkins.env
cat > ~/.claude/jenkins.env <<'ENV'
JENKINS_URL=https://jenkins.your-company.com
JENKINS_USER_ID=victor
…Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add victorrentea/petclinic/jenkins-cli@sha256:aab470a6593f7899The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260923.4092d44, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
