Build a "product description" repo for a software product — a set of prose documents describing, from the outside in, what the user sees, what they can do, and exactly what happens when they do it, written from the code and tests, then verified against the running product and triaged into a bug list. Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Product description repo
A product description treats the product as a large state chart the user moves through with input. The repo describes that state chart feature by feature, in plain language, from the user's point of view, with the same skeleton for every document so that gaps and inconsistencies show up by comparison. Documents are drafted from the source code and its tests, then verified by hand against the running product, and everything that looks like a defect is collected into one triage file.

How to install
mdr add backnotprop/product-engineering/pe-product-description@sha256:cfa717115dbd319dThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260826.4e34f3c, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
