Scaffolds and audits whole agent plugins. Use when the user wants to create a new plugin directory (manifest, README, skills folder) or to audit or validate an existing plugin: its structure, .claude-plugin/plugin.json, components, portability and compliance. Also use after a plugin's components change. Not for a single skill (use authoring-skills), a single sub-agent (use authoring-subagents), rules, AGENTS.md or hooks (use authoring-instructions), or APM packaging (use packaging-with-apm).
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Authoring Plugins (`authoring-plugins`)
Creates an APM-native plugin skeleton and audits a plugin as a whole; component audits are delegated to the sibling skills by name.
## Contents
- [Constraints](#constraints) • [Modes](#modes) • [Quick start](#quick-start) • [Workflow](#workflow) • [Verification](#verification) • [References](#references)
## Constraints
1. **Pure APM-native layout**: primitives live inside `.apm/` (`.apm/skills/`, `.apm/agents/`, `.apm/hooks/`, `.apm/prompts/`, `.apm/instructions/`); never maintain duplicate root `skills/`, `agents/` or `hooks/` folders alongside `.apm/`.
2. **Self-contained skills**: scripts, references and assets live inside the skill that uses them (`.apm/skills/<skill>/`); no plugin-root shared files, no copy manifests (`symlinks.json`), no symlinks.
3. **Dual manifests**: `apm.yml` at the plugin root defines APM package metadata; `.claude-plugin/plugin.json` has an `author` object (`{"name": "...", "email": "..."}`) and never lists `skills`, `agents`, `hooks` or `commands` (auto-discovered).
4. **Portable**: no `/Users/` or `/home/` paths; use skill-relative paths or `${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}`.

How to install
mdr add richfrem/agent-plugins-skills/authoring-plugins@sha256:353491fe7d4daf90The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261027.494b440, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
