Deep design review of Go codebase — naming, structure, consistency, interfaces, error handling. Scores each dimension and provides actionable fixes.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Design Review
Perform a comprehensive design review of the Go codebase. Evaluate code quality, naming conventions, consistency, and architectural patterns. Produce a scored report with actionable improvements.
## When to use
Use this skill when:
- Auditing overall design quality before a major refactor or release
- Onboarding to an unfamiliar Go codebase and need a structured assessment
- Comparing codebase against Go idioms after a period of rapid development
Do NOT use for:
- Reviewing a single PR or uncommitted diff (use `code-review` instead)
- Writing new code or fixing bugs
- Running linters/tests for CI gating (use `code-review` instead)
### Relationship to code-review
| Aspect | design-review | code-review |
|--------|--------------|-------------|
| Scope | Entire codebase or package | Changed files only |
| Action | Read-only audit, scored report | Fix issues, enforce gates |
| Focus | Architecture, patterns, idioms | Correctness, coverage, linting |
| Output | Scorecard + recommendations | Pass/fail gates + fixes applied |
## Dimensions
Score each dimension 1-10 and provide specific file:line references for issues found.
### 1. Naming Conventions

The line at the top of this page pins the label v1.1, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
A 17 of 17 checks passed. Fixed automatic checks with no AI involved, so the same checks give the same answer every run.
