Use when the course will not run at all, because of uv, a missing package, Ollama or its models, a notebook that still imports the old code, or git pull refusing to update. Diagnoses the machine and gives the one command to type next.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Fix the setup ## When to use Something in the environment is wrong. The doctor is red, an import fails, a model is missing, or `git pull` stops with an error. Not for exercise logic: that is `check-my-exercise`. ## Always start here ```bash uv run python scripts/check_setup.py ``` Read what it prints and fix the first red line. Fix one thing, then run it again. `uv run bootcamp doctor` reports the same machine from the CLI. If the shell says `bootcamp: command not found`, the learner is outside the course folder or dropped the prefix. It is `uv run bootcamp`, never bare `bootcamp`. ## The five things that actually break ### 1. uv is not installed, or you are in the wrong folder `uv` must be on the path and the terminal must be inside the course folder. On Windows this has to be Git Bash or WSL2. A bash command pasted into PowerShell fails on the first line and the error does not say why. ### 2. The two extras, and why naming one is worse than naming none ```bash uv sync --extra projects --extra agents ``` `uv sync` syncs the environment **exactly**. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
