Discover which CLI tools are installed, their versions, and authentication status.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# CLI Discovery When you need to discover what CLI tools are available on the system, use `host_bash` to check directly. Do not use sandboxed `bash` for discovery - it may not see host-installed CLIs or auth state, leading to false negatives. ## Checking if a CLI exists ```bash which <name> # returns path if found, exits non-zero if missing command -v <name> # alternative, works in all POSIX shells ``` ## Getting version info ```bash <name> --version # most CLIs support this flag ``` Use a 5-second timeout to avoid hanging on unresponsive CLIs. ## Auth-check commands For CLIs that support authentication, check whether the user is logged in: | CLI | Auth check command | | --------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- | | `gh` | `gh auth status` | | `aws` | `aws sts get-caller-identity` | | `gcloud` | `gcloud auth list --filter=status:ACTIVE --format=value(account)` | | `az` | `az account show` | …

How to install
mdr add vellum-ai/vellum-assistant/cli-discover@sha256:5c135ca4e5181f24The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260603.ff934d9, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
