research-market SKILL.md skillA

research-market from tomzx/agents is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.

Install it, pinned
mdr add tomzx/agents/research-market@git:20261007.b35fc4b

Pins git:20261007.b35fc4b in mdr.lock. Pin the fingerprint instead.

Size the market, map trends and segments, and assess timing for a candidate problem space. Part of the PDLC Discover phase.

Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

What the file says

# Research Market

Quantifies the opportunity space around a candidate problem: how big, who's in it, where it's heading, and whether the timing window is open.
Pairs with `analyze-competition` and feeds `frame-opportunities`.

## Prerequisites

- Apply the shared PDLC conventions in `skills/pdlc/references/shared.md`.
- `problems.md` from `discover-problems` (the problem space to size), or an explicit topic.

## Steps

1. Define the market boundary tied to the problem (TAM/SAM/SOM), using a clearly stated method (bottom-up counts, value-based, or top-down proxy).
   State assumptions explicitly.
2. Segment the market: who has the problem most acutely.
Rank segments by acuity, reachability, and value.
3. Map trends affecting the space (technology, regulation, behavior, economy) and assess whether each helps or hinders the opportunity.
4. Assess timing: is the window opening, open, or closing?
What event opens or closes it?
5. Flag data confidence: mark each figure `measured` / `estimated` / `guessed`.
A market sized entirely by guesses is a finding, not a result.
6. Write `market.md` to the initiative directory.

How to install

The exact contents, by fingerprint
mdr add tomzx/agents/research-market@sha256:05b5d237784d514d

The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261007.b35fc4b, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
