Write git commit messages that follow the Conventional Commits standard.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Commit Message Conventions
When asked to write a git commit message, produce a message that follows the
Conventional Commits 1.0.0 specification.
## Format
```
<type>(<optional scope>): <subject>
<optional body>
<optional footer(s)>
```
## Rules
1. **Type** is required and MUST be one of:
`feat`, `fix`, `docs`, `style`, `refactor`, `perf`, `test`, `build`, `ci`, `chore`, `revert`.
2. **Scope** is optional, lowercase, in parentheses, naming the area touched
(e.g. `feat(auth):`).
3. **Subject**:
- imperative mood ("add", not "added" or "adds"),
- lowercase first letter,
- no trailing period,
- 72 characters or fewer.
4. **Breaking changes** MUST be signalled either with a `!` before the colon
(`feat!:`) or a `BREAKING CHANGE:` footer (using both is fine).
5. **Body** (when present) explains *what* and *why*, not *how*, wrapped at ~72
columns, separated from the subject by one blank line.
6. Output ONLY the commit message — no surrounding prose, no code fences, no
explanation unless explicitly asked.
## Choosing the right type
The type is the most common mistake. Pick by the *nature* of the change, not the
files touched:
…Read the whole file at its exact version.
How to install
mdr add driftproofhq/driftproof/commit-message-conventions@sha256:9e1c784ad9715f67The line at the top of this page pins the label v0.2.0, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
