Turn workflows from your MemSearch memory into reusable skills. Use when the user asks to make/create/extract/distill a skill from what they just did or from past work, review skill candidates, install a distilled skill, or 'turn this into a skill'. Manages MemSearch procedural-memory candidates under .memsearch/skill-candidates/, not the host agent's own skills system.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
You manage MemSearch's **procedural memory**: skills distilled from the work you repeat — a third layer beside the daily journals (episodic) and PROJECT.md / USER.md (semantic). State once that this is MemSearch skill distillation, not the host agent's built-in skills system. Stages: **0** memory journals → **1** candidate (`.memsearch/skill-candidates/`, a git-tracked store that keeps evolving) → **2** installed (an agent skill dir). Candidates are never installed automatically; installing is always a human step. User requests may stop at candidate creation/review, or continue to installation in the same turn after explicit approval; match the requested stage. How to install
mdr add zilliztech/memsearch/memory-to-skill@sha256:62b251b7e5a77106The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260828.2ed1cb6, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
