Interactive input for Go CLI tools - when a prompt is the right channel at all, how a value resolves from a flag then stdin then a prompt, the shared stdin resolver behind a flag given -, the utils prompt helpers, and the ErrNoTerminal contract that keeps every command scriptable. Use when a command needs to ask the user something, when building or changing utils/input.go, when piping a secret or a file into a command, or when adding a password, free-text, or selection prompt. Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Go CLI Prompts **A prompt is a convenience for someone at a keyboard, never the only way to supply a value.** Interactive input is the exception rather than the default channel. Reach for it only when the value is unreasonable to type on a command line, such as a choice among options the user has not seen yet, or a secret that would otherwise sit in shell history. Everything else is a flag. ## The Rule Every prompt has a flag, or a positional argument, that supplies the same value and skips it. Without one the command is unusable from a script, a cron job, or an agent, and no amount of terminal polish makes up for that. A flag whose value has a prompt is never `MarkFlagRequired`. Cobra rejects the invocation before `Run` is reached, so the prompt never runs and the flag it was meant to make optional is mandatory after all. The resolution below enforces the requirement instead, and its failure message names every path that would have worked. Every value that can arrive more than one way resolves in one order: | The flag holds | The value comes from | |---|---| | a value | the flag itself | | `-` | stdin, in the flag's marked mode | | nothing | the prompt, when one exists | …

How to install
mdr add tanq16/claudex/go-cli-prompts@sha256:3a8036cab87c1865The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260826.6314f56, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
