# Debug and Fix ## Skill Value - **Problem it solves:** Bug fixing fails when agents patch symptoms without reproducing or understanding the root cause. - **Use when:** The user reports an error, failed test, broken behavior, stack trace, issue, or asks why something is failing. - **Output:** A reproduced cause, minimal fix, targeted tests, and a concise explanation of the causal chain. - **Ask only if:** Only when reproduction requires unavailable credentials, data state, user role, or another external condition, or at the fix / diagnosis-only, branch, and learning-capture decision points. - **Do not do:** Do not guess-fix without a causal chain unless the user explicitly accepts a best-available hypothesis. - **Interaction:** Check repo/config/chat evidence first. Ask one decision-changing question at a time; use the current harness's blocking question UI when available, otherwise present numbered choices and wait.
