Use this when writing or reviewing a changeset in `.changeset/*.md`. Covers how behavior decides the release type, the opening word for a bug fix, and how much of a mechanism one sentence should carry, drawn from a real review where one changeset needed ten corrections before it shipped.

Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

What the file says

# Changesets

A changeset becomes a changelog entry, which someone scans while deciding whether an upgrade breaks their bot. Get the release type right first, then say what changed once, in the reader's own case.

This skill decides what a changeset says. `writing-voice` covers how any sentence in this repo sounds. `release-version` covers cutting the release itself.

The shape is fixed, and `pnpm lint:changesets` rejects anything else:

- One paragraph on one line. No second paragraph, list, heading, quote, or code block.
- At most two sentences for a patch and three otherwise. One sentence is fine when it already carries the reader's own case. A second sentence carries that case when the first one cannot.
- `**BREAKING:**` plus a space opens the summary when the change breaks. The changeset bumps no package as a patch, and a `major` bump is only for a package already past 1.0.

---

## 1. Behavior decides the release type

Ask whether a running bot behaves differently after the upgrade. Never ask whether the types still compile. Pre-1.0 in this repo, a yes answer means a `minor` bump carrying the bold `**BREAKING:**` prefix.

How to install

The exact contents, by fingerprint
mdr add seedcord/seedcord/changeset-guidelines@sha256:660a3a71450e06a7

The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261015.48dacfe, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
