Use when starting a new task, feature, bugfix, or refactor in a Loom project — "let's start", "new task", "working on", "implement", "begin". Ensures a board task exists with a clear scope and a sharp definition of done, then loads context before any code changes.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Task Start (Loom) Make the work trackable on the board before diving in. The board is the source of truth — one task = one focused, independently-mergeable change. ## Steps 1. **Find or create the task** — `tasks_list` (the `loom-tasks` MCP); if none matches, `tasks_create` with a clear, specific title in **Conventional-Commits form** (`type(scope): summary` — lowercase type like `feat`/`fix`/`refactor`, imperative summary), drawing the scope from the project's `CLAUDE.md` "Commit scopes". 2. **Scope it.** Put the scope **and a sharp definition of done** in the task body (`tasks_update` body). The DoD states what *proves* it works — a command that exits clean, a manual repro, a regression check. A task without a DoD isn't ready to work. If an open decision blocks pinning the DoD, ask the human via `question_ask` (the Requests inbox) rather than guessing. Keep it to one logical change; if it's really several, split it. 3. **Move it** — set the task to the `active` column (the in-progress ROLE) via `tasks_update` columnKey. First, **skip any card flagged `held`** (an owner brake) **or `deferred`** (the manager …

How to install
mdr add danielc000/loom/loom-task-start@sha256:a3af06f03ae47a30The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260720.f964b9c, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
