Drive the running Cockpit server through the `cockpit` CLI — open and control browser bubbles, observe terminals, query the codegraph.

Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

What the file says

Enter Cockpit CLI operation mode.

The Cockpit CLI is a thin local client over the running Cockpit server: each invocation forwards to the server and reuses its CodeIndex / caches / git views.

CLI entry point selection (**default = prod**):

- Default: **`cockpit`** (prod, port 3457) — use this when no explicit dev signal is given.
- Switch to `cockpit-dev` (dev, port 3456) ONLY when the user explicitly signals dev mode, via one of:
  1. They write `cockpit-dev ...` directly in the task text.
  2. The first word after `/cc` is `dev` (e.g. `/cc dev terminal bmfb check the errors`).

Examples below use `cockpit`; only swap in `cockpit-dev` when one of the two dev signals above is present.

## Subcommands

| Subcommand | Purpose |
|---|---|
| (none) / `<path>` | Start server, open project |
| `browser open <url>` | Create a browser bubble (auto-registered) and print its id |
| `browser <id> <action>` | Drive browser bubbles |
| `terminal <id> [<action>]` | Read-only observation of a terminal ring buffer |
| `codegraph <subcmd>` | Project code graph (search/callers/callees/impact/file/coedit/context/related/risk/affected) |
| `update` | Upgrade to latest npm version |
…

How to install

The exact contents, by fingerprint
mdr add surething-io/cockpit/cc@sha256:00fce960609d95f0

The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260920.3dc387b, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
