Spawns full Claude Code peer sessions in separate terminal panes and git worktrees, real sessions rather than subagents, each with a directed task and contract brief, monitored and merged by the spawning lead. Detects the environment and uses herdr first, then tmux, then a native claude background agent. Use when work must persist or run beside the current session, needs a separate worktree or permission settings, should remain user-steerable in a visible pane, or when the user asks to spawn…
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Spawn <p align="center"><img src="assets/architecture.svg" alt="spawn: a lead session detects its environment (herdr, tmux, or plain terminal), creates a git worktree per task, starts full peer sessions in new panes, briefs each by contract, monitors without babysitting, and merges each branch back." width="900"></p> You are the **lead**. A spawned peer is a **full Claude Code session** — its own context window, its own permission prompts, its own lifetime, steerable by the user in a visible pane (a split of the terminal window the user can watch and type into). That makes it a third kind of delegate, above the two the library already has: | Tier | What it is | Lifetime | Reach it via | |---|---|---|---| | subagent | in-session worker inside your context budget | dies with your turn | `Agent` tool (orchestrate skills) | | one-shot | fresh `claude -p` / `codex exec` process | one turn, deliberately not resumable | advisor and peer scripts | | **spawned peer** | full interactive session, own pane + worktree | survives you; user-steerable | this skill | ## When to spawn — and when not Fire on any one signal: - the work must **survive this session** or run long beside it …

How to install
mdr add scdenney/open-science-skills/spawn@sha256:7d689b2d0f2ec8eeThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261008.eaad168, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
