Implementing immutable fluent builder pattern in Scala as a translation of Python classes with method chaining, emphasizing immutability and type safety.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Builder Pattern in Scala
## Python Pattern (Mutable Builder)
```python
class TokenizerBuilder(Generic[T]):
def __init__(self):
self._normalizers = []
self._metadata = {}
def with_normalizer(self, normalizer):
self._normalizers.append(normalizer)
return self
def build(self):
...
```
## Scala Idiomatic Translation (Immutable Builder)
In Scala, prefer **immutable builders** — each method creates a new builder instance:
```scala
class TokenizerBuilder[T] private (
normalizers: List[String => String],
validators: List[T => Boolean],
meta: Map[String, Any]
) {
def withNormalizer(f: String => String): TokenizerBuilder[T] =
new TokenizerBuilder(normalizers :+ f, validators, meta)
def withValidator(f: T => Boolean): TokenizerBuilder[T] =
new TokenizerBuilder(normalizers, validators :+ f, meta)
def withMetadata(pairs: (String, Any)*): TokenizerBuilder[T] =
new TokenizerBuilder(normalizers, validators, meta ++ pairs)
def build(): T => Token = { value =>
validators.foreach { v =>
if (!v(value)) throw new IllegalArgumentException(s"Validation failed for $value")
}
How to install
mdr add cxcscmu/skilllearnbench/python-scala-builder-pattern@sha256:02b95b49872f3b1bThe line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260424.d50cf5a, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
