scala-collections-fp from cxcscmu/skilllearnbench is an agent skill: a SKILL.md folder an AI agent loads when a task calls for it.

Scala collections, iterators, and functional programming patterns for Python developers.
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.

# Scala Collections and Functional Programming
## Collections Overview
### Immutable Collections (Preferred in Scala)
| Python | Scala | Characteristics |
|--------|-------|-----------------|
| `list[T]` | `List[T]` | Linked list, prepend fast |
| `list[T]` | `Vector[T]` | Indexed access fast, append ok |
| `tuple[T, ...]` | `Seq[T]` (umbrella type) | Immutable sequence |
| `set[T]` | `Set[T]` | Unordered, unique elements |
| `dict[K, V]` | `Map[K, V]` | Key-value pairs |
| `range(n)` | `(0 until n)` or `Range` | Lazy range |
### Mutable Collections
```scala
import scala.collection.mutable
val list = scala.collection.mutable.ListBuffer[Int]()
val set = scala.collection.mutable.Set[String]()
val map = scala.collection.mutable.Map[String, Int]()
```
## Iteration Patterns
### Python iteration
```python
# List comprehension
squares = [x * x for x in range(10)]
# Generator
def gen():
for x in range(10):
yield x * x
# Higher-order functions
list(map(lambda x: x * x, range(10)))
list(filter(lambda x: x > 10, range(20)))
```
### Scala equivalents
```scala
// Collection methods (eager)
val squares = (0 until 10).map(x => x * x).toList
// Iterator (lazy)
How to install
mdr add cxcscmu/skilllearnbench/scala-collections-fp@sha256:4ae0c5520832eb11The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20260424.d50cf5a, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
