Search the live web, registries and primary sources at decision time and report what exists outside. Use when choosing a library or tool, looking for a prior implementation, checking whether a paper or post applies here, reading what an official spec does now, surveying current practice, or checking a claim against its source.

# /search-first — Look Outside First; Building Carries the Burden of Proof The report says what exists outside and how it differs from our situation, and each need ends in a verdict, written by whoever runs this skill (the lead, in Full mode). **Adopt is the default**: an established tool that covers the need is used even when it fits imperfectly, because a part we build is a part we maintain and keep improving ourselves, and that effort comes out of the work the tool was meant to serve. Build is chosen only when the report shows, for each candidate, the stop condition (§3) that rules it out. "Established tool" covers libraries, CLIs, MCP servers, plugins, published skills and the agent runtime's native features. Adopt-part takes one piece of a tool (its parser, its data model) inside our own control flow. ## 0. State the question in text Before the first tool call, write 2–3 sentences of plain assistant text: the question, which row(s) of the table below it belongs to, and the constraints (language, existing deps, license, budget). Tool arguments may mirror this text; the chat text is what lets the user redirect before effort is spent. …

How to install
mdr add shimo4228/akc-cycle/search-first@sha256:ffa7c77c0f347c86The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261101.1c68dc8, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
