Next.js 16+ Cache Components / Partial Prerendering (PPR) — mix static, cached, and dynamic content in a single route. Use when enabling cacheComponents, applying the 'use cache' directive, choosing cache profiles, or migrating from experimental.ppr. Explains the three content types: static (auto-prerendered), cached, and dynamic (Suspense).
Collected from public GitHub. Every version is saved exactly as it was and never changes. Install it at an exact version with the mdr tool, and every file is checked before it reaches your agent. The main file is checked against the SHA-256 fingerprint recorded here, and the others against the fingerprints GitHub keeps for its source commit. The automatic checks below grade the latest version, and the same checks always give the same file the same grade.
What the file says
# Cache Components (Next.js 16+)
Cache Components enable Partial Prerendering (PPR) — mix static, cached, and dynamic content in a single route.
## Enable Cache Components
```typescript
// next.config.ts
import type { NextConfig } from 'next'
const nextConfig: NextConfig = {
cacheComponents: true,
}
export default nextConfig
```
This replaces the old `experimental.ppr` flag.
## Three Content Types
With Cache Components enabled, content falls into three categories:
### 1. Static (Auto-Prerendered)
Synchronous code, imports, pure computations — prerendered at build time.
### 2. Cached (`use cache`)
Async data that doesn't need fresh fetches every request:
```typescript
async function BlogPosts() {
'use cache'
cacheLife('hours')
const posts = await db.posts.findMany()
return <PostList posts={posts} />
}
```
### 3. Dynamic (Suspense)
Runtime data that must be fresh — wrap in Suspense:
```typescript
import { Suspense } from 'react'
export default function Page() {
return (
<>
<BlogPosts /> {/* Cached */}
<Suspense fallback={<p>Loading...</p>}>
<UserPreferences /> {/* Dynamic — streams in */}
</Suspense>
</>
)
}
```

How to install
mdr add tekkiiiii/the-agency/next-cache-components@sha256:b4ddcc90fd631c94The line at the top of this page pins the label git:20261007.04729ed, which is what most people want. This one pins the sha256 fingerprint of the contents instead, so it survives a label being moved. Either way the exact version is written to mdr.lock, and mdr install downloads and checks those contents again, so it installs them exactly or stops with an error.
